Scrappy

Scrappy came to us together with his brother Benji when they were only a few months old – abandoned by their prior owners when they realised they didn't actually want puppies and threatened to take them to the municipal shelter. Initially frozen with fear after it took us a few attempts to even catch them to get them to safety it didn't take long for them to thaw. Scrappy was the first one who discovered how nice a bed was and was quite easily bribed with food and treats.
Scrappy is initially a shy, reserved dog. While his brother takes the forward-barking-approach when meeting new people, Scrappy prefers keeping his distance. With new volunteers he will try to stay as far away from them as possible, walking wide circles and leaving the room whenever possible. However, after a day or two when he warms up to people, Scrappy becomes the most loving, adoring companion imaginable. His sweetest quirk is that Scrappy would like for someone to hold his paw at all times. He is always looking for cuddles and someone to sit next to, just to have a human by his side. Ideally, for Scrappy to find a home he would have a chance to meet his new family a few times to get used to them before moving in with them. Since we know that's not always possible we are looking for a patient home for Scrappy that knows to give him all the time and space he might need at first. It will be SO worth it.
Scrappy is good with other dogs from the get-go. He is a gentle soul through and through and would benefit a lot from another confident dog in the home who can show him the ins and outs of what it means to be a real house dog.
Scrappy has been on a few walks and his leash training is coming along nicely. He is very eager to please and very good at focusing on the person walking him as well as turning to them for guidance and reassurance – the perfect prerequisite for any kind of training.
We would love nothing more than for someone to give Scrappy the one chance he so desperately needs. While he is doing fine at the shelter this really isn't the ideal place for a dog who needs a calm, stable environment to grow into the amazing companion he so clearly was meant to be.
