Ace

Ace is our happy-go-lucky boy and a favourite amongst volunteers. Back in Turkey, Ace and his mom Jade were the only dogs not living inside the sanctuary but outside the main house – free to come and go as they pleased but always being there on time for breakfast (and cuddles). Ace would always join us when we took some of the sanctuary dogs on walks, usually running in front but making sure we were still there every once in a while. Originally, Ace was brought to our attention because Jade was waiting outside, getting our attention to follow her to where Ace was – with a dislocated hip in need of medical attention. And ever since, both of them became a fixed feature in the front yard.

Ace is really good with people, always very excited to greet a new human and one of our best cuddlers around here. Strangers entering his space or greeting him through our front gate don't bother him in the slightest (he actually once formed a friendship with the waste collectors through the fence). Nail clipping, brushing and ear cleaning are all easy to do with sweet Ace as well.

The move to Italy presented a big change for Ace, now living in an enclosure for the first time. After some initial struggle with getting used to all the new impressions and surroundings he has now settled in. While we think he would be absolutely delighted to find his forever home there's a small chance that moving once again may bring some of that stress back – anyone adopting him should therefore be prepared to give him time to adapt and adjust to his new life (as is the case with any dog you bring into a new home, really). For him, the stress presented in him lashing out to other dogs (as he was now stuck with them in an enclosed space for the first time in his life) but he never once showed any signs of turning on us humans. Therefore we recommend Ace be the only dog in the home. However he is happy to meet and play with other dogs! It's the living together in a confined space he does not enjoy.

Since he is used to having a lot of space to roam around ideally his furever home comes with a big garden for him to explore. Ace is fine on the leash – however he does not always enjoy long walks and sometimes prefers a run around in the yard. He loves playing with toys (both by himself and with us humans) and is by no means lazy. At the moment long walks simply don't always bring him enjoyment.
